127 Years of Experience
Did you know we're one of Bristol's oldest businesses?!
Pattersons was founded in 1889 by Robert Patterson with the purchase of an ironmonger premise on 74 Redcliffe hill, Bristol. Establishing regular trade with Bristol Avonmouth Docks, The General hospital and farmers and farriers from all over the South West, orders were collected every month and delivered as far as Chard by horse and trap.
Horse and cart continued to be our main mode of transport until the purchase of our first Bedford lorry in 1939. The very same lorry was requisitioned by the army during World War 2, abandoned at Dunkirk and commandeered by the Germans. No more was heard of the lorry until 1945 when a letter and photograph was received from the British Embassy in Belgrade. The lorry had been found in Yugoslavia by two Americans and was identified by the Patterson logo - still visible through the burned paintwork!
Now one of the oldest businesses in Bristol, we remain a family owned business with a fleet of 10 delivery vans, enabling us to offer next day delivery throughout the UK.
Since our first home on Redcliffe Hill, we have witnessed many social and historical changes and have twice relocated. In 1969 we moved to 30-36 Redcliffe Street and remained there until 2006 when we moved into our purpose built, state of the art warehouse and showroom on Winterstoke road.
With 127 years of industry experience, we have an impressive network of affiliates that enables us to source the right products at the right price at the right time. What's more, our expertise enables us to tailor our service to suit your unique needs - quickly and within budget.
