Eco Cleaning Ingredient Focus: White Vinegar

White vinegar is one of those things that everyone should have in their house but it turns out it’s good for more than just cooking… it’s great for cleaning too. With eco-friendly being a topic everyone is talking about at the moment, we thought we’d share the love for one of our favourite and possible the greatest eco-friendly ingredient there is around… white vinegar!

Wine Stains

There’s no need to throw away your favourite clothes when you accidentally spill wine down them anymore! As long as you treat the dreaded stain within 24 hours, then this trick should work it’s magic! Simply sponge white distilled vinegar directly onto the affected area and you’ll gradually notice the stain disappear then wash as normal.

Pet Wee Smells

If you have pets, then you’ll know only too well that accidents can and will happen. All we can say is, if the dog does the dirty, act on it fast!

Firstly blot up as much of the urine as you can by layering paper towels and walking over them. Keep doing this with clean, dry paper towels until most of the urine is gone. Then mix white distilled vinegar and water tother and test on a small, inconspicuous area of your carpet to check the colours don’t run. If all okay, then saturate the stain with the mixture and leave it to rest of ten minutes. Blot once again and then when the carpet is mostly dry, sprinkle baking soda on the area to absorb any left over bad odours. Vacuum this up after about an hour or so.

Shower Doors

Soap build up on shower doors happens so quickly we barely have time to even notice but when left for long enough, these soap and water stains become a massive nuisance. Simply wipe your shower doors with a sponge of microfibre cloth soaked in white distilled vinegar. This time, you don’t need to rinse them.

Microwave

Perhaps one of our favourite hacks, simply boil a solution of 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of water together in the microwave until you see steam on the window. Simply wipe away the steam and job done!

Window Cleaner

For this one, mix equal parts of distilled white vinegar and water together. Using a microfibre cloth, apply the mixture to the window and then wipe clean using a squeegee. Don’t forget to wipe clean the edges and windowsill with the microfibre cloth too!

Stained Fridges

Simply dab the stained area with a vinegar soaked sponge or cloth, and rub until you see the stain loosening. Clean up the area after by rinsing with water and although the vinegar smell won’t last too long, popping in a cup with a little bit of

Talking about stained fridge tips and you sure need to include vinegar. This inexpensive, everyday item in the kitchen packs in amazing wonders. It is an excellent cleaner and stain remover. You can cover the area with undiluted vinegar. When you see the stain loosening, clean the area with a cloth and finish with a dry mop. The smell of vinegar does not last long.

All-Purpose Disinfectant

If you want to make your own home made eco disinfectant which can be used on most surfaces, it’s pretty easy. Simply mix white vinegar and water equally and pop in a trigger spray bottle and your ready to go! We recommend pairing with a microfibre cloth as these can be used over and over again.

Unclog The Drains

Mixing baking sofa, vinegar and hot water and you’ll have your drains unblocked in no time and this saves a lot of harmful chemicals!

Simply fill in the affected drain with a cup of baking soda, followed by a cup of vinegar. You’ll notice the mixture bubble and foam over. Leave it to work it’s magic for 30 minutes before flushing it with boiling water.
